Hike Ratings


  • 0 STAR:
    Easy non-technical event, but as with any activity, there is a potential for injury, Hiking boots not necessary. Path can accommodate automabiles. Negligible slope. Total map time less than four hours in one day.
  • 1 STAR: 
    Beginner level of experience in any activity. With adequate care by any person, injury is highly improbable. Non-technical, hiking boots not necessary, but recommended. Less than 500 meters climb in one day for hiking.
  • 2 STARS:
    Previous experience recommended. With adequate care by any person, injury is unlikely, but possible. Slightly technical. Possible chain and ladder work. Some rock scrambling, but hands are not required other than for balance. Hiking boots strongly recommended. 500-1000 meters climb in one day.
  • 3 STARS:
    Intermediate level of experience in any activity. Lack of attention can easily lead to a fall with serious injury probable. Fairly technical. Necessary use of hands other than for maintaining balance or holding chains or ladders. Hiking boots absolutely necessary. Up to 1500 meters climb in one day.




Recommended Hiking Checklist

1. Day pack (backpack)
2. Hiking boots (essential for winter hikes in the snow) or good exercise shoes

3. Liquid refreshments (allow at least 1 liter)
4. Packed lunch
5. Hat/sunscreen/small face towel
6. Plastic bag for rubbish
7. Camera
8. Change of clothes (optional)
9. Wet weather gear (trousers and coat)
10. Wind proof jacket, preferably a fleece
11. Gloves and head cover (winter hikes)

These items are recommended for day hikes only.
